As one of the youngest and successful designers currently, Alexander Wang recognizes what his minimalist, fashion savy, customers admire from his collections. I was first introduced to his style, while reading a Teen Vogue issue years ago, before his line was margilized in the fashion industry. Posing next to his model pal, & fashion icon, Erin Wasson, he was still on the verge of debuting his line & gaining praise by prominent fashion editors. Since then, the basic (and perfetly loose) T look (t-shirt) has been renovated to become an essential in every girl's wardrobe.
In his previous collections, Wang flourished his line with edgy-black looks, & quickly became reputable for dark, black monochromatic schemes. As for his new Spring collection, he went directly the opposite road (or shall I say, catwalk) to add color and vibrance . He explains, "I wanted to move away from that hard, tough, aggressive, urban mood I've become known for. So there's no black, not even a hint of black." Clearly, the luminous flow of whites, creams, & pastels portrayed the "pure" and "optimistic" feel he was going for. The casual and loose fit infers, less is more, and feeling sexy and comfortable at the same time. Sheer shirts, quilited textures, silk silhouettes, compliment one another. The touch of the laced shoes/boots juxtaposed against the clothing is what I've been noticing as a growing trend. Finally, I thought the white paint on the models' hair is exactly the icing on the cake of the collection.
