69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci Pre Fall 2012

Rooney Mara stuck to her trend of wearing Black, Directional Silhouettes and chose to wear this Taffeta Nina Ricci Pre Fall 2012 Gown.

Rooney is always stunning and a striking presence on the Red Carpet, and I understand her continuing to stay close to the "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" Brand, I just think there are even more interesting black dresses out there for her to choose from.

She did soften her look a bit by sweeping her bangs to one side which I think is a great look for her and let's us see that beautiful face.

What do you guys think?!

17th Annual SAG Awards: Who Wore What? Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2011

Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2011

Nicole Kidman arrives at the 2011 SAG Awards in Nina Ricci Pre-Fall 2011 by former Louis Vuitton Designer Peter Copping. It's a black mini-raglan sleeved gown with lace back and shoulder insets. She is on-trend with the sleeved gown and fit-to-flare shape but, I have to say that I've seen better from La Kidman. This might end up on a lot of people's "Oh No She Didn't Lists".

This gown choice could have been fine at the Berlin Film Festival Awards--or something like that--but here in the States at such a high-profile red carpet: Maybe not so much. Please let me know your Two cents: Likey or No Likey?

68th Annual Golden Globe Awards Fashion: Who Wore What? Halle Berry in Nina Ricci Fall 2009

The gorgeous Halle Berry in Nina Ricci (from Olivier Theyskens' last Fall 2009 Collection for the house).
*Thank you to my informed commenter/reader for pointing it out--LOVE my readers!

Wish I could say the same for that gown. Two Words: Oh Dear. In a sea of Statement-Making Architecturally Draped Gowns and all-over beaded stunners, she shows up in this? A black chiffon and satin bustier dress that looks as if she's wearing her undergarments and hasn't actually gotten dressed yet. Is it 2003 or 2011?

The under-dress cuts her off at the thigh and the chiffon over-drape skirt is just odd. And to top everything off, she makes a very safe and dated shoe choice. If she had gone with an edgier platform shoe, I might have thought she was making a statement. Definitely NOT one of my favorites of the night. And interestingly enough, why I do LOVE it on the model, on the runway, and with those STOMPING boots? But, wow, Halle is GA-GA-GORGEOUS!!?? Look at that body, that face!!! What did you guys think of her gown choice?

2010 Golden Globes Red Carpet fashion: Who Wore What? Nicole Kidman

Statuesque Australian actress Nicole Kidman wore a nude-colored silk charmeuse gown from the House of Nina Ricci by Peter Copping. Copping replaced Olivier Theyskens after he was unceremoniously "let go" by Puig, his bosses.

Copping is a former assistant to Marc Jacobs at Louis Vuitton and this is his first collection. The gown is VERY 1930's with its cowl neckline and bias-cut and reminds me of a gown from a TCM movie from the 1930's that an actress such as Claudette Colbert would wear. It also looks like a gown I would design; in other words: Love it! I would have just removed a few of those side bows...for sure.

Black Beauty

So I'm sure you are all familiar with that little shoe blog called Sea of Shoes by now? She has a few people that are into it, no big deal. ;)

Anyway- I saw her now post yesterday and kind of freaked out. I am officially obsessed with these big black furry monsters on her feet!

(image via sea of shoes)

They are by BCBG and as far as I know, are impossible to find. I closed the tab for her blog and immediately searched all over google for a savior. No luck.
THEN... I realized, duuuuh Celine. Your friend is a BCBG designer and quite possibly designed these babies! HELLO!

So one quick and frantic phone call later and it turns out she did in fact design these and there is now hope that I may too own these shoes. When I asked said friend about these she said they were "scary" and I think that's why I love them so much. They remind me of the Nina Ricci's that I will sadly never get my paws on. They are totally different but similar in a way. Hmmm.

Any-hoo... what do you think?? Love them? Hate them?

Milan and Paris Fall 2009/10 Fashion Weeks-- Trend Alert!

Joan Collins Meets Robert Palmer Girls: It's all about the 80's and The Super ShoulderThe Super Shoulder at Nina Ricci Fall 2009/10

Milan Fashion Week has come and gone and now, the world's press--and editors and fashion buyers alike--have moved onto the City of Lights, Paris. Two trends are making a standout this season: The Eighties and a Fierce Shoulder. It seems ironic that in such a dire economic situation that the world is under, the 80's--a time of prosperity and spend spend spend--would be a theme that designers would cling to. Lord knows the reason, but they have.

Frida Giannini for Gucci:Slouched Skinny 80's at Gucci Fall 2009/10

Case in point: Frida Giannini at Gucci. Her entire collection celebrated Tina Chow and the 80's style of ultra feminine, strong, who-cares-what's-going-on-in-the-economy power post-Disco girl. For Fall 2009/10 Gucci, pants are only available in two silhouettes: Super skinny or slouched-to-super skinny. Club 80's at Gucci Fall 2009/10

Strong 80's shoulder-pads and silk jersey one shoulder club dresses highlighted the collection. The message for Giannini was clear: The World economy is going to Hell and a Hen basket, but the Gucci girl is going clubbin'.

Dolce and Gabbana:The Leg-o-Mutton Sleeve at Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009/10

For Fall 2009/10, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, based their collection on Elsa Schiaparelli with overt 30's and 40's references. Yet to me, it looked a lot more like an episode from Dynasty and an homage to Nolan Miller at times. Those oversized leg-o-mutton sleeves were out of control--and in a kind of campy, good way. Marilyn Monroe Pouffed at Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2009/10

They were the kind of sleeves in my old fashion school pattern book which my instructors would still somehow make us create. I remember back then, thinking to myself "Boy, these are some tacky sleeves and why do I have to make them?" Well, what was tacky then, is on-the-mark now. Time to dust off that pattern book and give myself a refresher course in oversized leg-o-mutton sleeves I guess!

Olivier Theyskens for Nina Ricci:
I Am Not In A Good Mood: The Nina Ricci Girl is ready to Fashion Kill!

Marrying the two Fall 2009/10 trends of the 80's and Super Shoulders is the genius of Olivier Theyskens in his final collection for Nina Ricci. His swan song was hailed by editors, fashion press and buyers alike as one of his best. His woman was the Robert Palmer Girl--but for 2009/2010! The Original Robert Palmer Girl

His collection seemed to be an ode to that Theyskens girl he created in his head who in one corner is ultra fashionable and chic, yet at the same time, can stomp you and whip you into shape if you speak to her the wrong way! I want to hang out with this woman...OK, I actually wanna BE THIS WOMAN!!! Besides strong Thierry Mugler-like jackets, super skinny skin-tight pants, 80's slicked back chignons, defined Shiseido-girl looking make-up, he also showed some of the most dangerous boots and shoes since Naomi Campbell fell in her Vivienne Westwood platforms. Are you Kidding me? The Nina Ricci no-heel boots

Take a look at these boots with no heel--I can only imagine what the models' reactions were when they were handed these shoes and told to walk for their lives! I can see a Tyra "America's Next Top Model" episode comin' on...that or Ru Paul's "Drag Race"!
