69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Shailene Woodley in Marchesa Spring 2012

Shailene Woodley in Marchesa Spring 2012: Wow! This is how you break on to the scene! Shailene is the breakout star of the new George Clooney film "The Descendents" and she was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.

And for someone who is new to the Red Carpet, Shailene certainly hit it out of the park on the first try! Note to all newcomers, contact Marchesa...it is hard to go wrong in their frothy creations by Keren Craig and Georgina Chapman..

She looked beautiful in this Silver Silk Tulle and Beaded Gown. Note how the outer layer of tulle was removed to create a more "Red Carpet Ready" hourglass silhouette.

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Lea Michele in Marchesa Spring 2012

Lea Michele in Marchesa Spring 2012: My comment in the last post about Starlets going directly to Marchesa might not have worked so well for Lea Michele. After watching the Miss America Pageant last night, I fear that this dress veers ever too close to a Pageant Dress.

While this is probably the perfect dress for someone like Halle Berry, Lea Michele comes off looking a bit too Miss Oklahoma for my liking. On a positive note: I do like that the took away the peplum pieces at the waist!

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Salma Hayek in Gucci Premiere

Salma Hayek in Gucci Premiere (Custom Gucci): Salma looked Hot, hot, hot! in her custom, made-to-order Gucci Premiere Gown. While it is similar to the recent Gucci Spring 2012 Collection it was an original design just for Ms. Hayek or should I say Mrs. Pinault.

Salma is married to François-Henri Pinault. He is the Chairman and CEO of PPPR which owns brands such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen and more...

In other words, she should be getting her underwear custom made as far as I'm concerned!

This Black and Gold Bugle Beaded Siren dress was a perfect marriage of 1920's influence, while allowing for a Va-Va-Voom Silhouette for Salma's petite and curvaceous figure.

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Diane Lane in Reem Acra Pre Fall 2012

Diane Lane did NOT disappoint in this stunning Gold, Beaded, Tulle Gown by Reem Acra Pre Fall 2012.

I love everything about this look on Diane. The color, beading and silhouette gives her a regal, Hollywood Royalty look which is exactly what she should be portraying to the world. I also love how the dress, which is most likely the EXACT sample seen on the model on the right, looks perfectly age appropriate on both women.

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Madonna in Reem Acra Pre Fall 2012

Madonna wore the above Silver Beaded and Black Tafetta Reem Acra Pre Fall 2012 Ball Gown to this years Golden Globe Awards.

It is not so much the dress that isn't working for me, but the way she accessorized the entire look. The black half glove with stacked Diamond Bracelets, Cross Necklace and lifeless hairstyle just make me confused.

Instead of making one strong Fashion Statement, she seems to be all over the place with this ensemble.

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Nicole Kidman in Versace Spring 2012

Nicole Kidman in Versace Spring 2012: The photo here just doesn't do Nicole and this dress any justice. When you see her on the Red Carpet and on Stage she is incredibly striking and looks as if she could have actually walked the runway of the Versace show!

This was one of my favorite Versace Shows of recent season because it was such a direct reference to Gianni Versace and I love that she chose to wear this dress.

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Claire Danes in J. Mendel Pre Fall 2012

Claire Danes chose the above Black and White Silk Crepe J. Mendel Pre-Fall 2012 Cocktail Dress for this year's Golden Globe Awards and she (or her stylist) wisely decided to customize it and make it into a stunning gown.

I LOVE the Art Deco Quality, the belted waist detailing and Bugle Beaded Overlay open back.

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Julianna Margulies in Naeem Khan Spring 2012

Julianna Margulies wore this Naeem Khan Spring 2012 Plum Bugle Beaded Gown with Open Back and Sleeves.

At first glance, with it being so covered up in the front and severe chignon hairstyle, I wasn't quite sure if it was working for me. But as I reviewed more and more of the photos, it started to grow on me.

There are some absolute SHOW STOPPING Dresses on the Red Carpet tonight! So this might get lost in the crowd, so to speak.

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci Pre Fall 2012

Rooney Mara stuck to her trend of wearing Black, Directional Silhouettes and chose to wear this Taffeta Nina Ricci Pre Fall 2012 Gown.

Rooney is always stunning and a striking presence on the Red Carpet, and I understand her continuing to stay close to the "Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" Brand, I just think there are even more interesting black dresses out there for her to choose from.

She did soften her look a bit by sweeping her bangs to one side which I think is a great look for her and let's us see that beautiful face.

What do you guys think?!

69th Annual Golden Globe Awards: Who Wore What? Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier Spring 2012

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier Spring 2012. This Blue and White Taffeta Ink Swirl Print Ball Gown is sure to be a Love it or Hate it choice for the Fashion Pundits and viewers.

It certainly takes courage to wear a dress you have to know that people will say looks like a Warshak Ink Blot Test! She said that her daughter chose this dress and I'm thinking she might want to rethink taking that advice the next time she gets ready to hit the Red Carpet.

What do you think?!?

TV Guide Emmy Awards Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba and Nick Verreos

Jazz Hands....with Carrie Ann Inaba!
Awesome Foursome: Jennifer Rade, Nick Verreos, Carrie Ann Inaba and Lawrence Zarian

Monday night was the premiere of TV Guide Network's Emmy Awards Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba. I was invited back to be part of the panel of experts, including Angelina Jolie's stylist Jennifer Rade. She was in a silky Gucci jersey dress and stacked gold Gucci pumps (love her!). We also had a special guest, the UBER fabulous Kim Vo, colorist to the Stars! This was the debut of Carrie Ann Inaba as the new host and she did an AMAZING job! We filmed Sunday night ONLY HOURS after the Emmys red carpet took place! It was CRAZY! We usually tape the following morning but Miss Carrie Ann had Dancing With The Stars to tape on Monday so no can do...In her honor, we got all "jazz hands" on her during several of our segments. Trust me, I would loved to have done some high kicks, but my pants were too tight and you might have heard a rip!Bling Bling: Nick Verreos wears a beautiful Platinum and Diamond Pin from the Singer Collection on TV Guide's Emmy Awards Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba

I was lucky enough to have been invited to the Platinum Guild International Suite at the Four Seasons earlier in the week where they let me borrow a STUNNING pin, made of platinum and diamonds, from the prestigious Singer Collection (not the sewing machine family, in case you were wondering!). Well, naturally, I wore it to my TV appearance on the Emmys Fashion Wrap. Butch It Up: Nick Verreos and his TV Guide Boys, the crew of TV Guide Network Fashion Wrap

As always, I had the best time filming these and we all meshed very seamlessly together--it was as if we all had been doing it for years with Miss Carrie Ann. I especially love the CREW---I call them "My Boys"; they are all very "Butch" and they still love me---each time I show up to the set, they try and teach me the Straight Guy Walk. I try and do it for them, but the big red leather man-purse I carry in my arm ALWAYS ruins the effect! Love my TV Guide Boys.

Now speaking of our red carpet commentary, I loved getting "down and dirty" with what we liked--and didn't like--on the red carpet. And being that I am a fashion designer as well as an Instructor of fashion design at FIDM, I always try to insert a little bit of "schooling" regarding the fashion terminology we are using so the audience isn't left in the dark.
My faves: Well, January Jones in Atleier Versace, Heidi Klum (of course) in Marchesa, and Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhullier. All three were GA-GA-Gorgeous!

Now if you want to know who we picked for "not so good", you can click BELOW and watch the ENTIRE TV Guide Emmys Fashion Wrap with Carrie Ann Inaba...and me!

Nick Verreos on the SAG Awards TV Guide Network Fashion Wraps!!

Yes, it is Awards Season, and my so-called expertise has been called upon once again for the TV GUIDE NETWORK. I will appear tomorrow night on the SAG Awards Fashion Wrap With Lisa Rinna. I really have a fun time with everyone doing these and I'm sure we'll be on our "best behavior"---NOT! Be sure to catch it Monday, January 26th @ 7pm and replaying at 8pm, 9pm and 11pm.
* Above is the video from last weeks Golden Globes Fashion Wrap, in case you missed it!

Golden Globes-Uncle Nick's Fashion Round Up

Until I get that phone call from E! Entertainment to do my own unique post-Award Show "fashion commentary" (don't hold your breath kids, I will not be giving up my "Day Jobs" of designing my line or being an instructor any time soon), I will willingly give my "two cents" review from a "fashion insider" point of view here on my blogspot. It's more cleansing to get it down on "paper" than to vent to David and my tired-of-hearing-me- babble friends.

Now onto this year's Golden Globes' Red Carpet catwalk: My favorite gown was Drew Barrymore's white Grecian-draped column of silk crepe from Christian Dior by Galliano. She redeemed herself (after last year's fashion don't) and got some sound advice to keep her "puppies" up with this strapless gown that featured some gorgeous draping enveloping her figure like a statue. She looked gorgeous; her hair was perfect and she carried the dress well.

Black seemed to be the color of the night. I was a bit disappointed at this, but it is no surprise since by choosing black, they felt safe and assured that they may not end up in those "Worst Dressed" lists, if they had worn, mustard yellow, for example (hello Prince!). Of the black-clad actresses, Penelope Cruz wore the color beautifully. She looked like a Spanish Infanta and Andalusian flamenco dancer all in one, in her black Chanel gown. She somehow always gets it right. Great neckline and silhouette for her figure. "Hola" magazine should be very happy!

La Jennifer Lopez, looked like a Diva! She serves it on the Red Carpet overtime! Really, young up-and-coming Drag Queens across the world are playing her posing over and over again today, for practice. She wore a Sari-inspired Marchesa gown (Marchesa co-designer is Harvey Weinstein's girlfriend) that was unusual and stunning at the same time. She owned it. She gets major atta-girl points from Uncle Nick. She reminds me of those glamorous 1950's actresses I would see in those old Mexican movies my grandmother would watch on a daily basis. Jennifer exudes old-school glamour for 2007.

In terms of color, I think "Ugly Betty's" America Ferrara looked so pretty in her deep violet/royal blue Brian Reyes corseted gown. Great silhouette for her body, accenting and highlighting her lovely curves.

Speaking of curves: Hello Helen Mirren ! I think Ms. Mirren's Donna Karan jersey was great. Loved the plunging neckline, and the peek-a-boo beaded chiffon from underneath. She wore the "Grecian-draped" trend well and the gown was perfectly suited for a "mature woman". She didn't go dowdy as most actresses her age might have gone. It highlighted her fabulous upper torso, neck and shoulders. She was a sexy Queen!

I perked up , after seeing a sea of black gowns, when the pretty Reese Witherspoon walked the Red Carpet in her canary yellow cocktail number. Loved the color, especially against her golden hair(which looked great too). Surprisingly, I did not have a problem with the length. It still looked appropriate for an A-list award show like this.

I could not speak of the "Best" without a couple of "Misses". One word: Beyonce. I love Miss Beyonce BUT she looked like a Drag Queen in her metallic gown. Momma Knowles needed to re-think this one, I feel. It was just too much, some would argue that it looked like she raided the "Dreamgirls" wardrobe department when looking for a gown to wear. I have a feeling this one may end up in the "Worst" section in those celebrity magazines.

Lastly, Cameron Diaz was a toss-up for me. Yes, she looked like a wedding cake, but the dress was still rather pretty and feminine. I liked the shape and the cinching of the natural waist (another trend), but I would have removed the shoulder tulle accent. I also think that in black or a golden-beige, it might have looked better.
