Meeting Seth Aaron Henderson, Winner of Project Runway Season 7!!

Season 4 Casting Memories...
Young at the Standard, circa 2007: David Paul, Nick Verreos, Seth Aaron Henderson, and Santino Rice

Well, look what my lovely friends at Blogging Project Runway un-earthed from their "Treasure Chest" of archival photos: Yes, that's my NIKOLAKI partner, David Paul (far left), myself, Seth Aaron Henderson and Season 2 Contestant Santino Rice. Several years back (look how young and SKINNY Seth looked!!! Not to mention myself and THAT crazy t-shirt!), I judged the Season 4 LA Castings of Project Runway. Seth Aaron 2010

The castings were at the Downtown Los Angeles Standard Hotel and afterward I met up with Blogging Project Runway's Laura Kluvo for cocktails at the Standard Rooftop Bar. She had come to LA to blog about the castings and invited myself and David for apres drinks and munchies. Once there, she said "Oh, I met a lovely guy who tried out and he's stopping by as well". Yes, the "lovely guy" was Seth Aaron. Seth Aaron had tried out for Season 4's Castings but unfortunately, did not make it to the next round. Talk about perseverance, because, well, as we now know, the rest is history. Congratulations to Seth!

Just in time for the new Lifetime Network's season premiere of Project Runway Season 6, here's the fun little interview I did for the California Apparel News' ApparelNews.Net "Trade Talk" blog:

The sixth season of “Project Runway” has not even aired yet (it
s scheduled to bow on its new home on Lifetime in August), and Im already thinking about season 7.

Thats because I recently caught up with “Project Runway” alum—and recent ApparelNews.net guest blogger—Nick Verreos...............

Nick Verreos and Tim Gunn at the Project Runway Season 7 Casting!

Nick Reunites with Tim Gunn--and Zoe Glassner!Judges Get Your Pad and Pencil! Nick Verreos, Zoe Glassner and Tim Gunn at the LA Project Runway Season 7 Castings, W Hotel Los Angeles

This past Monday--yes, on Memorial Day--was the one and only Los Angeles Casting for next season's Project Runway. I know, we haven't even seen Season 6 and we are casting Season 7? Yep, that's how TV works kids! I was privileged enough to have been asked to join Fashion Mentor GOD, Mr. Tim Gunn, as well as the stylish and infectiously friendly Marie Claire shopping editor, Zoe Glassner for another run at finding America's Next Great Designer! The castings took place at the chic W Los Angeles Hotel in Westwood. Soon after I arrived at 9:30 AM, I made the mistake of grabbing my coffee and walking out into the gorgeous W Hotel pool area. It was a mistake because, of course, all I could think of was "Oh wait, I can't use the pool, I've got to work!" Not for Nick: The W Hotel Pool

It certainly was "all work and no play" as Tim, Zoe and I proceeded to see a day's full of aspiring Project Runway contestants, who came as far as Hawaii and Oregon (as well as LA, Palm Springs and the SF Bay Area) for "a chance of a lifetime" at this final LA Castings. Kicking Under The Table: Nick Verreos, Tim Gunn and Zoe Glassner prepare to see the aspiring designers

We saw many talented designers, assistant designers, store owners as well as fresh-out-of- fashion school students--some even from my alma mater, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising/FIDM. There was DRAMA, snippy verbal fights and amusing adulations. I hope they caught it all on film--oh wait, I think there was a camera!! Could there be another "Road To The Runway: Season 7"? If there is, I hope it didn't catch Tim and I kicking each other under the table. Now, speaking of that W Hotel pool, I never got to use it, but Tim, Zoe and I did end our day with some yummy cocktails and spicy nuts at the adjacent W Hotel Whiskey Blue Bar. It was a perfect ending to a productive Memorial Day of Project Runway Season 7 castings.

Project Runway Season 7 Casting!!!!

Season 7 Casting Notice:
I just got word from my "peeps" at Project Runway that they are about to hold the castings for the next season of the show. As you may know, two weeks ago--on April Fools, of all days--it was finally announced that Season 6 Project Runway was going to air on Lifetime Networks (mid-August I believe). So, now I guess that also gave the green light to Bunin/Murray, producers of the show, to begin the casting process for the next season---

Here are the Details:

*Minimum Age: 21 years old (sorry underage twinkies)

*The castings will take place in Atlanta , Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, and even Seattle. By Appointment Only! (see below)

*You have to submit your applications by April 24TH !!!!
*Casting directors and producers for the show will take a look at all these applications, videos, DVD's, etc. and then THEY will make "the first cut" and pre-select the ones that will be able to go to those castings.

Who's Next? Nick Verreos judges last year's Season 6 Chicago Castings

A lot of people ask me "How should I prepare?". Well, my answer to them is usually explaining to them that I had worked in this crazy fashion industry for 13 years and THAT was my preparation.
Be YOURSELF (but please try not to be the mean one, OK, maybe just for the producers!), bring on the TALENT, show them why the rest of America needs to discover you as America's Next Great Fashion Designer.

Good Luck!
