84th Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

Mija!!!!

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad: Jennifer Lopez was one of the last to arrive on the Academy Awards Red Carpet and she made an entrance huney! She GAVE it to you!!! She wore a silver and golden metallic and silk organza gown by Lebanese Fashion Designer (who shows in Paris) Zuhair Murad. It featured a PLUNGING neckline and horizontal and diagonal panels that enveloped her figure perfectly.

Her make-up and hair were perfect! LOVE me that "Star Bun" of hers! Oh, and yes, those diamond drop earrings: GORGEOUS!

And yes, the back was just as Star-Fab! Leave it to Miss J Lo! What did you guys think? I personally think, it was one of the Best of the Red carpet--from head to the tip of that "Star Bun" of hers!

Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala Red Carpet: Divas and A-Listers

Red Carpet Royalty.....

Diva Supreme!
(and I'm not talking about Ms. Andre Leon Talley trying to upstage her from behind!!)

Anna Wintour in Chanel Haute Couture

Monday Night was the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala honoring the memory and amazing work of the late Alexander McQueen. This event happened only days after the House of Alexander McQueen ( headed by Sara Burton) was revealed as the designer of Katherine Middleton's Wedding Gown. So you can only imagine the excitement already swirling around in the air.

The Met Gala is always such a fun Red Carpet, because it is thought of as the "Academy Awards" of the Fashion World. The Oscars are often given the label of being safe and cookie cutter by the fashion world, so this is their opportunity to put their money where their mouth is and really give us something to talk about!!

But before we get to some of the more crazy ensembles, I thought I would highlight a few of the A-listers and Divas that really looked great on the RC.

Diane Kruger in Jason Wu: She looks breathtaking and very Old Hollywood Glamour. Love how she is workin' the slit and also the return of the strappy, more delicate heels.

Ginnifer Goodwin in Topshop Unique: Love the color and Ginnifer always knows how to highlight that fabulous face. She accented it well with that STUNNING Van Cleef and Arpels necklace.

Madonna in Stella McCartney: While I am not a huge fan of this dress, Madonna is certainly vibe-ing 1930's Hollywood Glam. We are seeing a return of the Silk Charmeuse Gowns lately and there is no doubt that Madonna is looking flawless in the close-up image above.

Ashley Olsen in Vintage Dior: Love the unexpected quality of the dress on Ashley. While she stayed within her color comfort zone (black and white), it is great to see her reveal a bit more skin and style her hair in an up-do. She looks like a Parisian Chanteuse!

Mary Kate Olsen in Vintage Givenchy: Those Olsen Girls love their vintage! Love the color and ethereal quality. The Emerald jewelry is a perfect accent.

Jennifer Lopez in Gucci Fall 2011: Love this Gucci Collection and love Jennifer in this 70's inspired chiffon halter dress. Not everyone can pull off that floral bolero, but Jennifer, always the Diva, makes it work effortlessly.

Kerry Washington in Escada: Who knew her body was this amazing?! Love the color, cut and fabrication of this gown. If only she could have stopped the hairstylist from making her look like a poodle! When in doubt, pull the hair back into a Chignon!!

Ashley Greene in Custom Donna Karan: Shoot me now, but I have actually never seen a Twilight Movie, so I wasn't completely familiar with Ashley. But she certainly made an impact on me with this gorgeous Custom Donna Karan Gown. Not a style you would normally see from DK, but she looked absolutely radiant in the dress.

Up next....The Wacky, Crazy and "Oh No She Didn't!" of the Met Gala Red Carpet!...

68th Annual Golden Globe Awards Fashion: Who Wore What? Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad Spring 2011

Jennifer Lopez in ivory silk chiffon gown from Beirut-based Designer's Zuhair Murad Spring 2011 Collection.

It's HEAVEN! Give it to them Miss JLo! This white silk chiffon front-gathered gown with see-through capelet featuring gorgeous light-to-heavy sequins is SOOOO my Mom at a Caracas Embassy Party circa 1975. I have to say, Jennifer Lopez really is the ultimate DIVA on the Red Carpet. She doesn't play kids. EVERY detail is accounted for; from the white eye shadow to the sequined purse to the earrings, bracelet and nail color. And what I love most is when she gets up to do the interviews on the Red Carpet, she's all "Who me?? I'm just Jenny from the Block." PUHLEEEASE!!!! What did you guys think of this gown?

82nd Annual Academy Awards: Who Wore What? Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez in Armani Prive Spring 2010

Jennifer Lopez certainly got it right tonight in this Armani Prive Spring 2010 Gown. She will definitely be on most people's Best Dressed List and she deserves it.

It was amazing how the dress was so delicate and light from the front but when you see her from behind it was tight and structured showing off that signature JLo bootie!

2010 Grammy Awards Red Carpet Fashion: Who Wore What? Jennifer Lopez

Jennifer Lopez in Versace Spring 2010

Oh Miss JLo. You just gotta give her points...Attagirl Points. Somehow the gown on the right didn't translate so well on the woman who wore it on the left. Why does this gown--on Jennifer Lopez--make her look like she's going to a Prom in New Jersey? She just hasn't met a high-slit and a 6 inch Platform she didn't like...

Best New Year's TV Moments: JLo, her hairstylist, Human Hair Coat, and Kathy Griffin on CNN

Happy New Year's Everyone...Now Can Someone FIX MY HAIR!!!!

First Favorite Moment from New Year's Eve 2009 (on TV)--Click BELOW for the video (22-23 seconds in), it's GENIUS!

I just love how, first of all, she is in some OUT OF CONTROL fur coat (Lets hope it was faux or we might have to send Tim Gunn after her) but then 3 minutes before ringing in the New Year, she is LIVE on camera and her hairstylist just waltzes in to fix her hair--which mind you, didn't need fixing. Love it. This was DIVA move Numero DOS!

In case you missed what was underneath her fur coat just minutes before, Miss Lopez performed her "Louboutins" single live in a crystal-encrusted very TIGHT bodysuit:
Here's a backshot:I love this photo (not for the reason most Straight men think!) but for the fact that there seems to be a "last-minute" addition that was inserted to the back waist area of the bodysuit. That piece should not be there but I am sure the top section was too short at the center back and the sewer had to add a piece. Can you tell I LOVE my patternmaking and designing? I notice EVERYTHING! I think she looked FABULOUS but some on the web, not so much. This was not all she wore. To begin her performance, she started with what looked like a Human Hair Coat--yes, you read right. it was SO Chris March of Project Runway fame! (no word yet whether or not he did make that!). But it did remind me of his Bryant Park Collection from Season 4:
My final favorite moment from last night was watching THE GAYEST SHOW EVER ON CNN, starring Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper: Miss Kathy, naturally, supposedly dropped the "F" word (yep, yet again) last night and CNN had to issue an apology. But that's not what I want to dish on here. I want to discuss their ensembles: Can someone please call me so I can provide Miss Kathy with a better New Year's ensemble? Please? I know it's 30 degrees, but you still can look a little more, how shall I say this...FESTIVE!!! She looked like a flight attendant for American Airlines. And I love me some flight attendants, mind you. The red sweater was a nice touch for Anderson but he looked like someone's dad at church. Or maybe that's the point.

Whatever the reason, Kathy and Anderson continue to be the most entertaining TV on New Year's Eve. JLo may have had the jumpsuit but Kathy had all the jokes and Anderson....well he just needs to stand there and look cute!!!

Hope everyone had a great New Years Eve!!!

Inaugural Parties--Nick Verreos in Washington DC

Party-Hopping DC Style

Step-&-Repeat: Nick and DC reporter (and Project Runway fan), at Inaugural Night Party, L2/Leopold's Kafe

I was honored and humbled to have been invited to host the California State Society and FIDM Presidential Luncheon and Fashion Show in Washington DC and to be there during this historic Inaugural. But, of course, I also hoped that maybe David and I could "hit up" some parties while in the US Capital. Unfortunately, I was not invited to any of those fabulous Balls (there were MANY!), but I was invited to several very cool and fun Inaugural parties during my stay.
Welcome to the Embassy: The Ambassador of Kuwait's wife, Rima Al-Sabah with designer Tory Burch

The first party I was invited to was Sunday evening's illustrious Cocktail Buffet Party given by the Ambassador of Kuwait and his stylish wife, Rima Al-Sabah to celebrate the Inauguration of President Obama and Vice President Joe Bidden. The party was also hosted by world-renowned architect Leo Daly and his wife, former Chief-of-Staff for President Reagan, Ken Duberstein and his wife, and DC Mayor Adrian Fenty and his wife and CEO of the Washington Post, Donald Graham. Rima Al-Sabah is known to be THE unofficial Hostess of Washington DC, and is always on the "Best Dressed Lists" of the world.

Runway to Cocktail Buffet: Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer (above photo) and the stunning Balenciaga dress (Fall 2008) she wore to the Kuwaiti Embassy Inaugural Party

The party was held at the Kuwait Ambassador's residence. Upon entering the home, all the guests gathered in the immense inner Courtyard which featured a gorgeous fountain right in the middle of it. Republicans Unite: Actress Bo Derek and Colin Powell at Kuwaiti Embassy Party

There were hundreds of guests; all of them the creme-de-la-creme of Washington DC, Hollywood and NY. I was in CNN and BBC World News Heaven: I recognized Wolf Blitzer, ABC's George Stephanopoulos and his lovely wife, actress Alexandra Wentworth, Colin Powell, Opera Diva Renee Fleming, socialite designer Tory Burch, Estee Lauder heiress Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer (in black Balenciaga by Nicolas Ghesquiere--see above), actress Bo Derek and even Linda Carter, of "Wonder Woman" fame. Thank God David came with me as my "date", since I did not know anyone.

Kuwaiti Couture: The black Alexander McQueen dress (on the right) worn by Mrs. Al-Sabah, wife of the Kuwaiti Ambassador, sans the mask of course

I did say "hello" to the hostess, Mrs. Al-Sabah and complimented her fabulously chic Alexander McQueen black side-draped cocktail dress, from his Spring 2008 Collection. I was happy to have bumped into "Desperate Housewives" creator Marc Cherry. We ended up DISHING on Project Runway. There were full bars in almost every corner and a dining room featuring a Middle Eastern-inspired buffet with such delights as Kubideh beef, chicken and rice, Falafel, Hommus, Filpino lumpias, and the most yummy shrimp which I later found out Mrs. Al-Sabah has flown in all the way from KUWAIT!!!!!!
Better Late than Never: Toby shows up to Host the Artists and Atheletes Alliance Inaugural Party

On Monday evening, I was invited to attend the Capitol File Magazine and Artists and Atheletes Alliance Inaugural party at DC's Cafe Milano. It was hosted by "Spiderman" actor, Toby Maguire. The party went from 7- 10 PM. Toby showed up at around 9 PM, did a "lap" to greet guests and take photos.

Strike a Pose: Jennifer Lopez gives it to you!

Also at the party were Jennifer Lopez (in a gold mini dress-she must have been really COLD!) and her hubby Marc Anthony. I also ran into the always stylish Judith Light, actress from "Ugly Betty". There were several open bars and lots of hors d'oeuvres being passed around and in buffet style (which I heard was rare for some of the larger Balls and parties so I guess we were lucky). A guest told us that they had gone to the supposed much-larger Latino Ball and decided to return to this party that we were at to eat something, because there was NO FOOD (at the Latino Ball)!! I ended up spending the party having my photo taken with a lot of the guests--I guess Washington DC has a lot of Project Runway fans...

She Bangs: Actress Jessica Alba at Inaugural Night Party, L2/Leopold's Kafe

The last party I attended with David was on Inaugural Tuesday night, the Artists Making An Impact Party at L2 and Leopold's Kafe in Georgetown. During the Kuwaiti Embassy Party a couple nights before, I befriended a guest who happened to be a talent agent with United Talent Agency/UTA visiting from Los Angeles. He was gracious enough to invite me to another party held by Artists Making An Impact. It was the only party we would attend on Inaugural Night and the fact that we were leaving for Los Angeles on a very early flight the next day (7 AM!) helped us make it an "early night". It was a lovely event, very low-key and classy, with finger foods, deserts and lots of Champagne to celebrate. We spotted actors Ben Affleck and Jessica Alba (who was there with husband Cash Warren). Everyone was very well dressed in either gowns, cocktail dresses or tuxedos. I chose to wear my white Dinner Jacket and bow tie. After a couple of glasses of Champagne and one delicious Margarita later, David and I called it a night and took a cab back to our hotel to try and get at least 4 hours of sleep before being picked up by our Airport "Cinderella Pumpkin Carriage". Thanks for a fabulous week Washington DC!!!
